This is a true Sci-Fi classic. I noticed while I was seeing this film, that almost all other movies or TV series withing the same genre has in some way been influenced by this one. it is a movie about xenophobia, fear for the unknown, and like most Sci-Fi of today this was among the first to literally say that the human race should not consider itself civil and advanced. like the remake of the film the alien Klaatu sees the primitive tendencies of humanity but also see the good in it, and decides to help them grow and hopefully eventually life in peace with each-other.
The effects aren't much compared to today, but hey!it was made in 1951. the effects where groundbreaking by they're standards and that should be taken in consideration. Also the acting is not be overlooked. Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal and especially Billy Gray also gave us strong performances.
So i give it a 10/10 and advice all Sci-Fi fans to watch this film immediately. If you like the themes of modern Sci-Fi films and TV you'd be delighted to see one its major inspirations.

The Reviews for The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) 1080p
The father of Sci-Fi films as we know it.Reviewed byjoshi_3592Vote: 10/10
This is one of the best science fiction movies ever made, bar none, and its message is still pertinent over 50 years later. This movie is my all-time favorite film of any genre, and no other science fiction movie has ever moved me like this one has. It is intelligently written, it's premise is unique for the early 50's..that an alien is benevolent and more evolved socially and technically and is not 'the monster of the week' or out to harm us..and the casting of Michael Rennie in the role of Klaatu was inspired. With his tall, thin, angular look, he looks as if he might be from another world, yet he is handsome as well to make him appealing. His accent, too, makes him seem just a bit different. All in all, I have never been affected so deeply by a movie in my life, and it was (fittingly) the first VHS movie I ever bought back in 1979. Today, I have the DVD version as well. I cannot recommend this movie strongly enough, both for the quality of the production and story and for the message of international peace and cooperation which is still relevant today. We have not learned a great deal about getting along with each other in the more than 50 years since this film was released, and it still packs a punch.
I heard a lot about this film over the years, but it was not until the remake was to be released, the original got my attention. So, I watched it recently and... it was an amazing experience. The movie never gets boring and might be the best sci-fi film I've ever seen! It's storytelling, acting, scenery and even the effects keep you in your seats! Especially Gort got my attention, what a menacing machine that was! Michael Rennie really shines in this film, along with co-stars Patricia Neal, Sam Jaffe and Billy Gray.
The remake really pales in comparison to this classic film. Certainly worth your time! Enjoy!
